Funders and Foundations
A word about major funders
Tip Sheets
Welcome to the ASK Funding Page
Welcome to the Art Services Kit (ASK) Grants page. You are probably here because you would like to find out about funding opportunities for your artistic project. In that case, we invite you to search our database of grants, residencies, competitions, prizes and programs.
If you are an artist and you are having trouble making ends meet, there are some options described here for you as well, including a small listing of emergency funds for writers and members of the entertainment industry.
An Overview of Funding Opportunities
While ASK could not possibly list everything available, we have tried to provide a selection of funding opportunities that will give you an idea of what is out there and available to Quebec English-speaking artists. Our listings range from local funding bodies, including Montreal's independent artist-run centres, to the nation-wide federal granting agencies, such as The Canada Council, or Canadian Heritage. It's important to keep in mind that these bigger federal programs have section officers and staff that are there to answer all your questions, answer your phone calls, and to clarify information on their website. So call them, send an email, write them—get the information you need—to make the best grant application you possibly can.
The Next Step is Yours
For smaller funding bodies, including local artist-run centres here in Quebec, we have listed grants that are available for English-speaking projects and those for which you can write an application in English. If you have any questions, feel free to call the centre and tell them you found out about it here at ELAN.
We want you to use ASK as a stepping-stone for getting in contact with the funding agency directly. Getting funding for your artistic project is competitive and often takes many hours of preparing applications, asking for reference letters, and writing proposals. But remember, the funding agencies are there to help you.
