We have had a busy few months at ELAN, completing the ACCORD project and launching Made au Québec, which continues to receive media coverage, particularly in the Francophone media. If you have not yet visited the site, I highly recommend it. There is no better place to find out who is making the news and why. Breaking Conventions: A Filmmaker's DIY Reality

Low-budget filmmakers these days can afford to take risks and explore new artistic territory outside of the classical Hollywood narrative. Independent filmmakers are no longer dependent on major studios to provide them with the tools they need to produce a film as they can now interact with the global filmmaking community and acquire inexpensive, high-end digital film equipment available at the consumer level. Small production companies and filmmakers can obtain the resources they need to produce entertaining films at a fraction of the cost. The collapse in funding for the arts has prompted the community to come together and create productive collaborations.

Location: Old Port Trois Brasseurs (105 St-Paul St. E.)
This Schmoozer follows the YES Artists' Conference & YES Arts Expo, which takes place down the street at the Marché Bonsecours. This is a closing gathering where artists and attendees are invited to meet and mingle. Joint schmoozers easily double our usual attendance and bring in a lot of fresh faces: this is a great way to meet new people in the arts and culture.
The Schmoozer will be open to everyone, YES Conference participant or not, ELAN member or non-member, artist or arts-lover. Feel free to bring a friend!
