The Montreal, Cultural Metropolis forum took place on November 26 at TOHU. A theatre designed for circus performers was an appropriate venue for 800 artists, cultural workers, creative visionaries and business leaders, as well as James Moore (federal Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages), Maka Kotto (provincial Minister of Culture and Communication, Jean-François Lisée (provincial Minister of Montreal and International Relations), Michael Applebaum (major of Montreal), and Elaine Ayotte (Montreal Executive Committee member responsible for culture, heritage and design) to engage in a day of high-flying mental and verbal gymnastics.

ELAN's new board of directors formed a Media Committee at its first meeting on September 18 to address the challenges of cultural coverage by the media. The trigger was the rapidly deteriorating situation in print media, specifically the demise of The Hour and Mirror, as well as a major budget cut at the Montreal Gazette. The larger context for ELAN's Media Committee is the impact of the steady migration of content from print to online platforms.
