CRITERIA
Applicants must:
- Be a legally incorporated business, either for-profit or not-for-profit, whose activities focus primarily on the performance of music and variety shows
- Have its head office and principal place of business in Quebec, and demonstrate that effective control of the business is mainly held by persons having their tax residence in Québec
Eligible performances include:
- Performances of Quebec professional music and variety shows that were scheduled in a hall, festival or event from October 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021 and that were cancelled due to government public health directives; for the purposes of this program, “Quebec professional shows” means music and variety shows presented by professional artists in return for compensation and for which the lead artist and the majority of the on-stage contributors have their tax residence in Quebec
- Performances of Quebec professional music and variety shows postponed from October 1, 2020 in accordance with government public health guidelines
- Performances of Quebec professional music and variety shows presented in a hall, festival or event that will take place from October 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021, in accordance with the government public health directives
- Performances by Quebec artists and groups pre-approved under the Awareness for French-Language Song and Dissemination for College Communities program which, as of October 1, 2020, have been cancelled due to government public health directives, or that have been deferred or will be presented in a venue in accordance with government public health guidelines
- Performances of Quebec music and variety shows that take place in venues supported by CALQ are eligible under the condition that only the calculation of the flat-rate aid for a performance is authorized • The following performances are ineligible:
- Shows that take place as part of parties or popular festivals
- Benefit or charity events, as well as shows of a corporate nature
- Performance showcases
- Promotional tours
- Recorded music shows (DJs)
- Foreign performances
- Performances booked more than twice consecutively in a hall or venue, except in the case of theater performances or performances in a festival
- Performances of shows booked more than twice consecutively in a hall or venue for which tickets have already been sold
Additional conditions related to eligible music and variety performances:
- A cancelled performance must be the subject of a contractual agreement between a producer and a venue or venue lessor
- A performance that is repeatedly cancelled or postponed in the same venue by a producer or a venue lessor can be the subject of only one application for the reference period
- One performance, postponed due to government health guidelines prescribed as of April 1, 2021 and which receives deferral assistance, may be re-applied for if it is presented in a hall or venue before March 31, 2021
- A postponed performance must be the subject of a contractual agreement between a producer and a venue or venue lessor
- Performances held prior to April 1, 2021 are not eligible for this program
- Performances supported by other SODEC programs which to be held on or after October 1, 2020, may be the subject of an application for assistance through this program; the total of all previous financial support obtained will be taken into account in the calculation of the amount of compensation through this program
The amount of financial assistance is established according to the following scales and limits:
- The compensation per performance for a producer cannot exceed $8,000
- Compensation per performance for a producer/presenter, a festival or a major event cannot exceed $10,000
- The maximum amount of compensation for performances of the same show cannot exceed $75,000
- This amount of compensation for performances of the same show may reach a maximum of $200,000 only when performance-related costs exceed $20,000 per performance
- The maximum amount of compensation per company cannot exceed $400,000

Applications are evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
- The status of the performance: cancelled, postponed, rescheduled or presented
- Government-mandated measures related to the evolution of the COVID-19 and compliance with the health standards in force in the region where the performance is to take place
- The distance between performances, at more or less than 30 km from the starting point
- Contractual agreements with the presenter or venue and ticketing reports from performances for which tickets have already been sold
- The total amount of financial aid for the same performance
- Information related to experience in presenting shows, pastprogramming history (festivals) and the history of artist and artisan remuneration (in the case of producers and producer-presenters
